Strongman Saturday

Today was event day - Strongman Saturday.  I was fairly beat-up from the week having lifted four times.  Fortunately, yesterday was a day off.

We spent the entire lift on the medicine ball which mimics both stones and sandbags, and has reaching benefits into all things full-body.  Here is a quick video of me and Brian:

Here is the workout:

Dehydration!

24-hour stomach flu has wiped me out!  I'm super dehydrated and while today was a key lift day for the week, it won't be happening.

I hit a killer deadlift session on Tuesday, working up to low 500s double-overhand, then finishing off with 4 sets of Romanian pulls for 20 reps each.  That really put the hurt on!

So Wednesday, when I got sick, trying to recover from Tuesday, while throwing up and not eating, was beyond rough.  I've had no solid food in almost 48 hours, at this point!!

Recapping, otherwise:

Monday was bench where I worked up to 365 x 5
Friday was a lot of squatting with a killer final set of 20 reps that made it hard to walk until Tuesday!

Overall, things are going well.  I continue to get stronger, and even when I'm not making sizable gains, can tell I'm cementing strength.  It is like on bench, where even with a few months off, I'd almost always be able to get 3 plates.  Similarly, certain other lifts are reaching new thresholds that always seem to be reachable, even when I don't perform them, specifically, on a regular basis.

Tomorrow, I should regain a little bit of strength, so hopefully by Saturday I can lift again!

Bench day

A bench day with Dave...Dave, thanks for making me bench even though I was being a baby about my shoulder!!  We did a few plateaus, and Dave did heavy 3x5 (inside to outside) while I did "heavy" holds as I couldn't handle close-grip or wide-grip bench.  185 is the most I've benched in a few months.  It didn't feel heavy at all, but I didn't want to push any it any further today while I'm still trying to recover.  We rounded out with some burn-outs, abs, and stretching:

Some bench and some cardio

I'm behind on my posting...Monday was a solid bench day.  I worked out with Dave and Isaac and built up to 405 on lock-out bench for 2 reps (elbows to 90 degrees).  We also did some dumbell work on 100s, and about half a dozen sets of straight bar curls (as Dave had a pool party to prep for!), working up to 130 for six reps.

Bench didn't feel great as I've had some shoulder pain, recently.  I've been icing and resting...

Yesterday I didn't lift but did get in a solid hour of tennis for some cardio.  Interestingly, this made my shoulder feel better which tells me I must be dealing with some scar tissue and not a legitimate injury.  I had hurt the shoulder last year serving, so it would be fitting for tennis to be the thing that ultimately makes me feel better...we'll see!

Thus far this week, I'm up to about 41,000 lbs.

Heavy bench - alone

Today was a "heavy" bench day, though that is a relative term as I had to lift alone.  I did a pyramid starting on plates and working up to 385, then back down again.  I finished with a burnout on plates for 20 reps with a half-way hold for a 30 count and a 1 minute hold at the top.  Total weight lifted today is approximately 23,000 lbs.  Time for some Cell-Tech!

Bench repeat

So our new workout MO is going to be 2 week lift cycles, repeating workouts twice (more or less).  We'll become accustomed in the second week (as evidenced by recent weeks), then we'll switch the routine completely for a new shock that will hopefully spur growth!

Today's lift was a close repeat of last week's bench:

I'm also going to cycle back onto creatine, probably using CellTech as I've liked that over the years.  I'm currently taking a standard 80/20 Whey Protein (concentrate/isolate) blend...standard stuff from Costco as it is a pretty good value.  I'm also considering incorporating Vitakic on a more regular basis to see if that helps.  I think I'll go with the supplement medley for a few weeks and see how it treats me!

Hasta la proxima.

Bench day with big D

I'm still recovering from Saturday's frenzy of tire flipping.  I have a strained bicep, can still barely feel my forearms and have been walking like I was 3 times my age...I guess that means it worked!  Today was a rough bench day with some out of the ordinary lifts to keep D guessing!  Here we go:
